Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Course

Level 1 (Online Delivery)

Recreation Manitoba is pleased to offer the Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities course (formerly known as Arena /Curling Rink Operator Course) ONLINE this year. This course helps prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam.

The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus, which includes chapters on welding, air conditioning and electricity. The  course syllabus  provides more detail on the course material.

Students will receive 900 credit hours towards the required 1,800 hours to write the provincial exam, when they pass both Levels I & II course assessments.

Course Materials

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone interested in registering after February 18th must email info@recreationmb.ca. We are currently out of textbooks and any future registration will be required to rent or purchase from Pan Global

In addition to the PanGlobal textbooks, the following items will be referenced throughout the course:

• Manitoba Power Engineers Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
• Manitoba Steam and Pressure Plants Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
• Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
• Refrigeration Plant Operator (Book 1 & 2) this is now edition 3.

Organizations are encouraged to purchase a set of books for their facility as they will be a good resource to have on hand and will be able to be used by other staff preparing to write the provincial exam. 

Limited number of textbooks are available to rent for the duration of the course from Recreation Manitoba. These are available on a first come basis. The cost to rent from Recreation Manitoba is $50 for a complete package. Pan Global also provides ebooks for rent.

Course manuals will be provided to each participant and are yours to keep.

Course manuals and textbooks (if rented) are available for pickup free or shipping (at additional charge)

Pre-requisite: 

• Student will be sent some pre reading assignments that should be completed prior to the class.
  

Recommended: 

• Students should have a good understanding of Mathematics at the Grade 12 level
• Familiarity with refrigeration plants

Cancellations

• Cancellations, less a $35 admin fee, will be allowed up until four weeks prior to the course. After four weeks no refund will be given however a credit to a future course maybe considered on a case by case basis.
